Autumn is my favorite season because it seems like the only one that’s not making promises it can’t keep. No, leaves and greenery aren’t forever. Yes, it’s cold and is going to get colder.  But autumn’s grace is that she allows you to enjoy parts of the other seasons within it: letting summer weather in now and then, encouraging you to wear spring jackets on windy days. And the foreshadowing of winter that creeps in at nighttime is deliberate, like she wants you to remember how lucky you are to not be *completely* frozen (keep in mind I live in Canada and our winters are the kind you could literally die in if you’re not careful. Why did anyone settle here??).

So there’s really no leap to make from autumn to this Crowded House song! It’s sad and lovely, just like my favorite season.
