1000 most romantic places in the world: 80.... →
Not an easy destination to get to from Bali (this took over 2 days). Arriving in the small village of Moni is a great relief. Wake up early in the morning (around 4am) and take a truck to Kelimutu. This is an amazing sight to behold and something really special to share with a loved one. There are…

Hi my awesome Pen Pal and other friends!
I stumbled across this video the other day and ever since, my heart has been wandering along those NYC streets we love. It made me smile to see Chloe Sevigny (who is guiding this little tour) talking of Veselka… and of course it also made me hungry for perogies featuring the sorts of fillings you think would be strange but are actually fantastic. Oh...

Hi Erin and friends (well mostly you Erin, since our friends may have given up checking on our blog since we’ve been sort of out of touch with it lately!),
I hope the season is as lovely and refreshing in New York as it is in my little Canadian city. I’ve been going for walks along our gorgeous riverbank, I’ve been wearing every pair of sandals I own just to get a foot in the...

Wonder woman has no plane →
These posters are amazing. Check them out when you get a chance.
But here’s my constant question - why is wonder woman’s plane invisible? why? why? why? they just didn’t want to draw something? this has always bothered me. Let’s all mull this over.

Harold Ford, NYT, Gillibrand: WTF?
peterfeld:
The Times must be Kirsten Gillibrand’s best friend. One year after torpedoing Caroline Kennedy’s Senate appointment, or more accurately, letting her hang herself in an interview and then reporting it with detailed derision, the paper has done the same thing with former Tennessee Congressman (and Julia Allison ex) Harold Ford, Jr., who ran for Senate in his home state in 2006 but has...

Dear Maygen & friends,
I just read this really interesting article on the blog Jezebel, regarding French rapper Diam’s and her decision to convert to Islam. Not sure my own opinion on the situation, but it did trigger me to think about the ideas of individualism and the pressures of pop culture. Hmm….

My friend Kelly (along with her friend Katie) blog their planned acts of kindness. They give out treats to strangers and sometimes they take a photo of a smile they’ve received in return, or they mail some random day-brightening postcards to unsuspecting friends (like me). Yup, doing cute things for others is what Kelly and Katie do when they get together… and it’s positively...

Word of the Year. →
I love the English language and will only embrace its bastardization when it’s done with irony. This means I can only fit a few words into text messages since I refuse to use “u”, “ur”, or any other abbreviation that makes me feel stupider for having typed them… but it also means you will never wonder what I mean in a text message.
But though I feel disdain...

Now I remember why I hate elections.
The gay marriage defeat in Maine casts a pall over everything. I’ve been counting on the states to pass gay marriage and create critical mass — i.e., reach a point where it’s legal in so many states that the others will have to throw up their hands rather than refusing to...

Youth is in the eye of the beholder.
– anyone who has been out of high school for more than ten years.
Kids are funny. I like them.
Erin and I were both Girl Guides when we were little girls and now as an adult, I have the pleasure of being a leader. I have about sixteen seven- and eight-year-old girls in my group this year and they are a laugh riot. Tonight, one little girl was explaining sperm to me and I had to listen attentively with a straight face. She was really a fountain of knowledge! (Pardon the visual.)
But...
